Rockfall Unit – Early Warning System for Rockfall
Our Rockfall Unit detects rockfalls in real time and analyzes vibrations as well as net loads. The data is stored in our event database and visualized via our web GIS platform.
With our proprietary radio network and automated alerts via SMS, push notification, email, or call, protective measures can be initiated immediately.
Maximum safety for critical infrastructure!
Along a heavily frequented mountain pass road in the Alps, rockfalls occur regularly, posing a danger to vehicles and infrastructure.
The Rockfall Unit is installed at critical locations on rock faces and monitors the area with highly sensitive impact and seismic sensors. As soon as a rockfall is detected, the system analyzes the size and intensity of the event.
With real-time data transmission to the GMD risk analysis platform, authorities and road services can be immediately informed. If necessary, automated warning signals are sent to traffic management systems, or road closures are initiated.
This significantly enhances safety for road users and reduces the risk of accidents and infrastructure damage.

Seismic Unit – Precise Detection of Ground Movements
Our Seismic Unit measures ground vibrations in real-time and provides early detection of landslides or seismic activity. All data is securely stored in our event database and visualized on the web GIS platform.
Through our radio network, automatic alerts are sent via SMS, push notification, email, or call, enabling rapid response measures.
In an alpine region, the Seismic Unit monitors a slope near a residential area that has become unstable due to heavy rainfall.
The highly sensitive seismic sensors detect even the smallest ground movements and identify early indicators of landslides. Once critical changes are detected, the system analyzes the data using AI-powered pattern recognition and sends a real-time alert to authorities and emergency services.
With rapid warning transmission, roads can be closed, evacuation measures initiated, and preventive actions taken. Additionally, the collected data contributes to long-term geotechnical analysis, helping to map risk areas more effectively and optimize preventive measures accordingly.
The Seismic Unit by GMD GmbH is a highly sensitive monitoring system designed to detect and analyze vibrations, ground movements, and seismic activity. It combines precise sensor technology with artificial intelligence to enable the early detection and assessment of natural hazards such as landslides, rockfalls, and seismic events.
